Resumen:   Given the degree of skill needed to accurately interpret court proceedings, themyriad languages for which interpreters are needed, and the logistical difficulties of providing interpreting services to trial courts in both urban and rural areas, the operation of court interpreting services is not a simple task. In California, as in other states, the operation of court interpreting services has become a growing challenge for court administrators and judges alike. To help trial courts meet their legal requirements in this area, the California Judicial Council and the AOC have begun exploring alternative methods for delivering interpreter services at the trial court, such as developing a state-funded telephonic interpreting program, establishing a regional interpreting program, and creating additional court interpreter employee positions for statewide deployment. Following on that initial research, the AOC has developed and is implementing a pilot program for telephonic court interpreting, designed to deliver the services of California-qualified court interpreters to those areas of the state where none are currently available.
