Resumen:   This work travels from the East to the West to offer a sample of the cultural wealth preserved throughout centuries, mainly thanks to oral tradition. The book begins with an introductory chapter on compared paroemiology. We are dealing with an anthology of Spanish glossed proverbs and proverbial phrases with their equivalents in eight languages (German, Arabic, French, English, Italian, Polish, Provençal and Russian). It is the only existing book on the proverbial treasure including those languages. Consulting this paremiological selection means tracking the cultural similarities and differences of some of the peoples that have contributed to the transmission of the experience acquired with the passage of time by means of short statements. On the other hand, this repertory is not only a good way of studying and comparing languages of various types, but also a valuable tool for the didactics of these languages due to the information given about each expression (meaning, variants in American Spanish, synonyms, opposites, key idea). It is an essential tool for translators, interpreters, teachers, students, linguists and lovers of folklore. Fourteen specialists (paremiologists, phraseologists, translators and teachers) have made a joint effort to present part of the research they are doing. [Source: Julia Sevilla Muñoz]
