Resumen:   The Bible at Cultural Crossroads applies many of the insights of relevance theory to the problems faced by translators. In the opening chapters, Harriet Hill provides an overview of the components of relevance theory, such as cognitive effects, processing costs, explicatures and implicatures. She goes on to analyze how miscommunication happens in translation and then study ways in which translators may adjust their translations to avoid communication problems. The theoretical content of the book is supported with real-life examples from the author's extensive experience among the Adioukrou people of Côte d'Ivoire. She deals specifically with the cultural conceptions concerning the spirit world, both in the New Testament and among the Adioukrou. She explains the methodology of her research (which then appears in the appendices) and illustrates her conclusions throughout the book with many tables and charts. The final chapter of the book deals with the practical implications of this research for translator training, for translation consultants, and for translation helps. [Source: David Bell]
