Resumen:   A translator is not a robot, behind his/her work there are always outstanding skill and training study. Moreover, he/she has to be gifted with deep sensitivity and empathy to be in tune with the original author. The volume deals with translations and translators at the beginning of the XX century, in Italy, when the ongoing process of internationalization created a new cosmopolitanism in both literature and art. In this landscape translation played a substantial role as a means of cultural mediation. The volume presents the Italian journalist Lorenzo Gigli (1889-1971) as a translator of Joseph Conrad and Thomas Hardy analyzing his background and the methods he adopted. The second section of the book examines Edward A. Storer (1880-1944), previously studied in another volume by Petrocchi. Here language and stylistic aspects of Pirandello’s translation are examined in depth. The third section delves into Storer's friendship with the English poet and occultist Aleister Crowley (1875-1947) on the basis of an unpublished letter by Storer addressed to the English imagist poet F. S. Flint on May 12, 1909 (the letter is preserved in the Harry Ransom Humanities Center at Austin and has been studied in the book for the first time). In this regard, new features of Storer's poetry have come out along with Crowley, a versatile and charismatic personality usually known as a philosopher, occultist and esoteric expert, here presented as a extremely refined and sensitive poet.
