Resumen:   The phenomenon of intertextuality - a term with over three hundred years of history, yet still relevant today due to "multidiscoursive" literary practice - has finally been described thoroughly with regard to issues in the theory of translation. The typology of intertextual references proposed by the author sets the directions for analysis for theoreticians of translation, and, for the translators, it shows areas, the omission of which leads to impoverishment of the source work, and sometimes even to distortion of its original intention. The intertextual relations described here reach beyond intraliterary references and include also the relations between arts (e.g. music, film) and the nonliterary discourses (mass media, mass culture etc.). Early novels by the Austrian Nobel prize winner - Elfriede Jelinek - serve as the exemplificative material. [Source: Publisher]
