Resumen:   Professor Welch sets out to trace the emergence of translation from the Irish as a mode of writing, and so puts us in touch with the central current of that age. He is also able to bring a knowledge of the literature of both languages to bear on the subject, and writes with a range and authority which makes him uniquely suited to survey the century and more under discussion.
