Resumen:   I, Interpreter: From Iron Curtain to Interpreting is the fascinating memoir of author Michael M. Gostich. Born and raised in communist Yugoslavia, he led a rebellious life against the Communist regime. With dreams of finding his father, as an adolescent he risked certain death in a dramatic escape from Tito's tyrannical Communist regime in 1963. Ending up in Australia, Michael became involved in interpreting and translating languages, one of the world's oldest professions. Translating has become a vital tool for communication between nations, and Michael qualified in 1980 to work in three different languages. In his book I, Interpreter, Michael describes his experiences and insights into the practice and theory of interpreting and translating. Part drama, part crash course, his story is both an entertaining and enlightening read. The inspiration to write I, Interpreter came from Michael's life experience and for the need to provide insight into the fine art of interpreting and translating. Michael M. Gostich graduated from scalping cinema tickets, bootlegging, boxing and a trade apprenticeship in Yugoslavia to entering the field of translation when he migrated to Adelaide, Australia. In the 1990s, he obtained a degree in social science and became a trainer and examiner in tests for other interpreters and translators. As a translator, one rewrites other people's thoughts in a different language. To utilize his own writing skills and experiences, and to gain more knowledge to change his career once more, he studied novel and film script courses. He has produced screenplays that have been offered to Hollywood film companies. [Source: Publisher]
