Resumen:   This is an attempt at a systematic study of self-monitoring and self-repair in Cl. The theoretic framework of psycholinguistics, in particular language production theory. Drawing on the self-monitoring theories of L l and L2 speech production, this dissertation proposes an integrated model of CI processing, which is the first of its kind to incorporate the self-monitoring mechanism into a CI processing model. An of the operation of the self-monitoring mechanism in CI processing is made in relation with other components that constitute the entire CI process, namely, comprehension, memory, note-taking, production and coordination. The dissertation goes on to investigate the overt manifestation of the self-monitoring mechanism in CI. Self-repair patterns by analyzing selected data that contains 1004 speech errors and 222 self-repairs identified in a students' CI examination performance corpus. The self-repair patterns analyzed in students' CI examination performance are compared to those in L l and L2 speech, which sheds light on the different cognitive processes involved in CI and lends support to some hypotheses related to the proposal of the integrated model of CI processing.
