Resumen:
|
|
This thesis discusses the different notions of subject in Daniel Defoe’s novel Robinson Crusoe and its Finnish adaptations with special attention on the historical, ideological and literary traditions behind these conceptions. The data consist of Defoe’s three volumes of Robinson Crusoe and 34 Finnish translations and adaptations of the text published between 1847 and 2005. The first part of the study concentrates on theorizing the adaptation process of fiction. The second part discusses Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe in the context of Enlightenment and canvasses the adaptation history of the novel. The third part analyses and provides interpretations of the various notions of subject that can be found in the Finnish adaptations that have been rewritten for guidance and popular enlightenment or as fiction for children and young adults.
