Resumen:   Today, more than ever, circumstances require computer systems for retrieving the information and for translating various texts. New markets, economy development, cultural, scientific and political cooperation, medical treatments require surpassing linguistic and national boundaries. Demand for Machine Translation (MT) is high and growing. In order to translate documents in 22 major languages of EEC, it is necessary to translte in 132 directions. Because of approaching and cooperation with European institutions and companies, in the Croatia there is also important demand for translating huge quantities of documentation from/to the English language The problem of machine translation (MT) surpasses national boundaries. The questions are obvious: What are possibilities of MT? Does it pay off? What is the quality of machine translated texts? Can it replace the human being? Is fully automated translation possible?
