Resumen:   The projected creation of a didactic and multicultural CDRom opens the opportunity for a reflection about language, transmission and variation. In this framework, a Romani traditional tale ("Miklós-son-of-a-mare", whose variants named in French “Jean de l'ours” are well known in Europe) is chosen as a tool for learning languages. In Romani language, "translate", paruvel, means "exchange". For seven years, people worked around this experimentation about “Miklós”. Five professional storytellers recorded their versions. Foreigners and children wrote original tales while attending French language learning groups. Translators and artists gave their versions. A multiplicity of different tales was thus produced. The thesis compares and analyses those variations of a same story through all its interpretations. Every motif of the tale is designed, engraved, printed in colors, repeated and formated within tables. As a metaphor for canvas working and weaving, the computer works as a kind of memory. In a CDRom, screens are superimposed, themes and motifs crossed, icons form patchworks and provide patterns to tell stories. This CDRom gives the model of an abstract narrativity for cross-cultural exchanges. [Source: Author]
