Resumen:   This article investigates metaphors that occur in the trilingual Polytechnic University Business Corpus (PUBC) of English, Chinese and Japanese, a 1.2 million-word corpus compiled in the period 1999-2000 to serve as a basis for creating a business lexicon of the three languages. In the process of compiling this lexicon, it was remarked that metaphors are particularly prevalent in business texts, and metaphorical meaning often takes pride of place over literal meaning. […] Discussion in this paper will focus on typical business metaphors in English and Chinese, and some differences between English and Chinese in terms of culture, psychology, and language. We also discuss how metaphors can be translated and presented in a business lexicon with minimum loss of original flavour. [Source: Authors]
