Resumen:   The PhD thesis Audiodeskrypcja malarstwa – charakterystyka gatunku i jej realizacje tekstowe (ang. Audio description of the painting - the characteristics of the genre and its textual realizations) focuses mainly on the audio description [AD], i.e. the way of presenting art to the blind and visually impaired/partially sighted people. It should be emphasised that I depict AD refering to painting and discuss the issue by means of genological tools, treating AD in general as a new genre of utterances. This new genre that undergoes transformation and modification, pursuing to become a piece of art, providing the blind with the opportunity to experience aesthetic art. Then, more than 400 AD texts and ekphrasis are discussed in the analytical and interpretive part of the thesis which consists of three parts. In the First Part I depict the canonical pattern (prototype) of AD consisting of a label, global approach, detailed approach and ending. In the Second Part I focus on transformations within the canonical frame, which undergoes, for example, the contamination of the global approach with detailed one, reduction of completion, transformations within the label, etc. What is important is the linguistic shape of the evolving AD is similar to the language of classical texts, which means that it is schematic, unemotional striving for objectivity. Finally, in the Third Part, I describe a range of adaptation patterns that I depicted in my textbook Posuchaæ obrazów (eng. Listen to Pictures), which are only written for a blind post-primary school pupil. This group of AD is four-part one, which is in the accordance with the prototype, but it undergoes a spectrum of transformations within the textual and linguistic content. [Source: Author]
